Chocolate Dream Bars

This recipe calls for lots of mixing - something your kids can help with.

Ingredients
125 mL1/2 cupbutter or margarine softened
175 mL3/4 cupgranulated sugar
5 mL1 tspvanilla extract
2 eggs
175 mL3/4 cupall-purpose flour
30 mL2 tbspcocoa powder
1 mL1/4 tspbaking powder
pinch salt
125 mL1/2 cupchopped pecans or walnuts
500 mL2 cupsminiature marshmallows
250 mL1 cupsemi-sweet chocolate chips
250 mL1 cuppeanut butter
500 mL2 cupsRICE KRISPIES*
Preparation
  1. In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs, beating well after each addition.
  2. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt and chopped nuts. Stir into egg mixture until well combined. Spread mixture in bottom of greased 3.5 L (13 x 9") pan.
  3. Bake at 180°C (350°F) 15-20 minutes. Sprinkle marshmallows evenly over layer in pan. Bake an additional 3 minutes. Let cool.
  4. In small saucepan, combine chocolate chips and peanut butter. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. Stir in cereal and spread mixture evenly on top of cooled marshmallow layer. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm. Cut into bars.
